The weekend before the beginning of fall, WCSART team members practiced survival training on a private property in the Gorge, which required them to spend an entire night in the woods equipped only with essentials carried in our 24-hour packs.
Because Gorge rescues sometimes require searching long into the night, the training helped to prepare the team for emergencies in which they may be deep in the woods for extended periods at night with a lost or injured person, and they need to keep the patient safe and dry. Team members practiced building fires, fire safety, emergency shelter building and boiling water with limited tools.
We thank everyone who came out for the training and helping us to be better prepared no matter what situation we face in the Gorge.
