On a cold November evening, WCSART received a 911 call for a trio of hikers who were lost in the Gorge. A locator link was sent to the group, identifying their location near Adena Arch. They only had cell phones as a light source, and due to their very cliffy location, WCSART dispatched team members to retrieve the group, instead of providing navigational directions remotely.
Because temperatures were falling and the hikers were not dressed for cold, WCSART decided to make quicker access to them using an unofficial trail. The group was located at the coordinates provided by the locator link, and the hike back to the trailhead commenced.
Because the terrain was steep in sections and slippery from recent falling leaves, several low-angle hand lines were used to ensure a safe exit from the rugged terrain. Team members exited the woods just after midnight.
