In mid-July, Wolfe County Search & Rescue Team returned to Tower Rock for a specialized training exercise, at the same location of a rescue last year featured on our podcast. Tower Rock is one of the more challenging technical locations in our response area. Unlike many cliffs in the Gorge, there is no accessible top‑side entry, requiring rescuers to ascend the rock face using climbing gear and techniques to reach patients.
Because of the unique difficulties this site presents, WCSART conducted a focused training session yesterday to rehearse access, movement, and rescue strategies specific to Tower Rock. Pre‑planning and repeated practice in high‑incidence or technically demanding areas are essential to maintaining readiness and ensuring safe, efficient operations when real emergencies occur.
