In late afternoon April 7, WCSART received a 911 call for two lost hikers in the Red River Gorge. The group was hiking to Angel Windows and after exploring the arch, they lost the original trail and became disoriented.
A locator link was used to identify their location but providing directions remotely proved to be unsuccessful. Two team members were dispatched to the trailhead and hiked in to retrieve the group.
We always encourage visitors and even the most seasoned hikers to carry some type of navigational aid and know how to use it. We are a big fan of GaiaGPS for a mobile mapping program. Just ensure to download your base layers and carry a portable charger to ensure your phone remains charged.
